Faithful to the historic artistic heritage of Les Bains, Paris and nestled in Saintes-maries-de-la-mer, the revered heart of the Camargue, naturally conducive to creativity, Les Bains Gardians offers guests and Paris alike the opportunity to discover works of contemporary art, created or selected especially for the premises, belonging to the hotel's collection or available to the whims of customers or enlightened art lovers.

Wishing to affirm their belief in artistic diversity as a vector of progress, Les Bains wish above all to respect the temporality of creation, the inspirations and fields of research of the guest artists, as well as the temporality of nature and the surrounding landscape, in order to contribute with the artists to the ecological issues of their time.

Projects for the creation of works in situ, indoors or outdoors, and for hanging in the public areas (reception, restaurant on the Pont des Bannes) and in the 67 rooms, will be gradually implemented as the projects progress.

For example, les Bains Gardians, at the invitation of its owner Jean-Pierre Marois and his artistic advisor Jérôme Pauchant, already hosts artists in residence for research and creation projects in situ in certain areas of the hotel.

Les Bains Gardians wish to give artists invited for research and creative residencies the opportunity to create special projects as well as works to be exhibited on site or at Les Bains Paris, and to forge collaborative links with galleries, contemporary art foundations and private collections based in the region, in a clear commitment to paying a measured tribute to nature and local culture.

DOVE PERSPICACIUS

A young French artist working in the Cévennes, Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is well known for its fortified medieval church housing the relics of Saint Sara and magnificent 19th-century exvotos. The artist carried out an initial research residency at the Bains Gardians in early April 2024. These observations, facts, anecdotes and significant events, noted and sketched in his notebook, will serve as raw material for the creation of a first set of exvotos which will then be hung on the walls of the terrace of the sacrosanct Restaurant du Pont des bannes, invoking for some luck and success in the new life of the establishment.

STUDIO AL FRESCO

The two artists Charlotte Develter, based in Marseille, and Zoé de Soumagnat in Paris, have formed Studio Al Fresco since 2016. Their research and creative residency at Bains Gardians, which began in mid-April with a project to create murals and ceiling lights inside the newly refurbished Pont des bannes restaurant, offers them a vast medium of expression in which to deploy their poetic wefts of vaporous paint (sustainable and solvent-free!) in luminous pastel colors, those of idyllic Camargue skies...

MARTIN GENDRE

Painter Martin Gendre's editions, shadows of feet by a swimming pool, parasols, angel's leap, face the splendid view from the private lounge of the Pont des Bannes restaurant, redesigned by interior architects Hauvette & Madani. His paintings are almost always based on existing images, enabling him to recreate those fleeting moments when life seems frozen, time stopped, as in old, forgotten photos, yellowed and a little faded by wear and tear. He uses elements of his environment as a tool in his artistic process, as a mental construct for his work.

PERRINE BOUDY

Young artist Perrine Boudy, a recent graduate of Villa Arson, has taken over the ceilings of the Pont des Bannes restaurant overlooking the bean-shaped swimming pool.

The artist was inspired by the bright spring greenery to paint large bands of grass-green wash on the ceiling, punctuated by white squares sometimes inhabited by chimerical bulls and horses, bridges or flowery paths with stylized outlines.
