Château La Coste in Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade

This 125-hectare vineyard produces organic sparkling, white, rosé and red wines. It's also a magnificent open-air center for contemporary art. Strolling through the vineyards, you can contemplate works by world-renowned artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Tatsuo Miyajima and Tadao Ando. The winery, meanwhile, is the work of architect Jean Nouvel.

Domaine de la Mongestine

Domaine de la Mongestine is the highest vineyard in the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation. Situated on a gentle slope to the north of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, it covers almost 120 hectares. It produces white, rosé and red wines, which you can taste on a tour of the vineyard.

Wines produced over an area of 4,200 hectares

Wines produced under the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) cover an area of nearly 4,200 hectares in almost 50 communes of the Bouches-du-Rhône region. Each year, the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence AOC produces nearly 189,200 hectolitres of wine, 60% of which is rosé! Created in 1985, this appellation is now recognized throughout France for the quality of its wines, as well as internationally.

AOC Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence vineyards grow between the Mediterranean Sea and the Durance River. Planted on plains surrounded by relief, they benefit from ideal conditions for the production of fine wines. The climate is Mediterranean. Nights are often cool and days warm and sunny. The region enjoys around 2,900 hours of sunshine a year, and is also subject to the mistral, a dry north-westerly wind.

Numerous grape varieties spread over the western part of Provence's vineyards

Within the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence AOC zone, the main grape varieties are Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Counoise. Almost 80% of the wines produced are from organic or HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) farms.

Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence vines are the most westerly of the Provence vineyards. The appellation area stretches from the Durance River to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the Rhône Valley in the west to Mont Sainte-Victoire in the east. It surrounds the Etang de Berre and crosses the landscapes painted by Cézanne. Wine-growing is concentrated between a succession of ranges running parallel to the coast - the Nerthe range, the Fare range, the Eguilles and Trevaresse ranges, the Costes range and the Alpilles range.
