The time for coats, cocooning and end-of-year celebrations is approaching. At this time of year, many people like to try out new destinations to feel the magic of the holidays and renewal. If you're one of them, you'll find what you're looking for when you stay at our 4-star hotel, the Auberge Cavalière du Pont des Bannes. It's a magical place to spend the festive season: the natural light is softer, the common rooms and restaurants are decorated, and everything is even warmer than usual.
Our semi-gastronomic restaurant Le Pont des Bannes is organizing a special evening for Christmas Eve. Our chef, Bastien Roscigni, will prepare a delicious and refined menu for the occasion: mise en bouche, salmon, roasted foie gras escalope, farm capon... among others! On December 25, a festive lunch is also available to extend the festivities.
To celebrate the arrival of the year 2023, our hotel is organizing a New Year's Eve dinner combining gastronomy and music. The dinner consists of 7 courses: foie gras cooked in a torchon, pan-seared lobster, scallops and roast Simmental beef are just a few examples. This is followed by an evening of dancing hosted by our DJ and saxophonist. Weather permitting, a fireworks display takes place at midnight on the edge of the marshes, to round off the year in style. On January 1, a festive brunch is also planned, with our gypsy musicians, José and Paco, providing the entertainment.
Extend your stay in the Camargue: tips and places to see depending on the length of your stay
Our 2-day/1-night itinerary
If you're coming to the Camargue for 2 days for Christmas or New Year's Eve, we recommend arriving early on the first day. On the morning of your arrival, head straight for Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Festive activities, a market and merry-go-rounds are planned every year. You'll also have the chance to stroll through this charming village, with its gardian huts, picturesque town center and 9th-century Romanesque fortified church.
In the afternoon, you can visit the Pont de Gau ornithological park, also in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Please note that it closes at 5 p.m. at this time of year. The park is even more magnificent in winter, with all its northern birds. December is mating season for pink flamingos, and you may be lucky enough to witness some exceptional parades.
Join us in the late afternoon for check-in, then head to the Pont des Bannes restaurant at 7pm for the start of the festivities. The following day, after your Christmas lunch or January 1st brunch, we invite you to take advantage of our hotel's facilities and activities. You can go for a ride on horseback or in a horse-drawn carriage.
End of year festivities in the Camargue: activities for a longer stay
If you've decided to take a longer vacation, this is your chance to visit the region in greater depth. In addition to the 2-day program, plan an extra day to visit the Camargue Regional Nature Park. Then plan a day trip to Aigues-Mortes, a 35-minute drive away, to see its ramparts, canals and saltworks.
A 35-minute drive away, you can also plan a day trip to Arles. Discover the arena, the ancient theater, the Van Gogh tour, the Roman ruins and a more modern building: the Luma Tower, an architectural marvel designed by the Guggenheim architect. If you still have time to visit our region, you can visit the Pont du Gard, Montpellier or Nîmes: all three cities are just an hour's drive from our hotel.
